AAFIS EXCHANGE IN AGROECOLOGICAL TRANSITION AREAS: RIO DOCE NATIONAL PARK
June 28th and 29th, 2023

Thirty-nine Tikmũ'ũn participated, the majority of whom were women and children. Hãmhi advisors and IEF members were present at the activity. This training exchange was structured within the framework of the Hãmhi Project's partnership with the IEF. Its main objectives were: to introduce PERD to the Agroforestry Agents and nurserymen of the Hãmhi Project, to showcase the projects and work carried out within PERD, to conduct seed collection demonstrating the methodologies applied, teachings, and necessary care, and to demonstrate the importance of conserving and preserving natural resources through the exchange of knowledge and expertise. The methodology used for seed collection, selection of seed stocks, mapping and monitoring the park, as well as the tools and work strategies, were presented. During the exchange, Tikmũ'ũn women, men, and children collected and selected the best seeds and species. There was intense dialogue with PERD staff members – Vitor Batista, Elviro (Nursery Worker), and Antônio Marcos (APA - Alto do Mucuri), clarification of questions, and visits to strategic and tourist attractions in the Park. The Hãmhi nursery workers also learned techniques for producing seedlings in bags and tubes and sorting the collected seeds. This activity was primarily geared towards training nursery workers from the Hãmhi Project (Opaoká) and "Singing and Healing the Earth" (CNPq).

Non-indigenous people are helping us.

And we will too

help trees and fruits grow

Now, as they burned a lot, there is only grass here

and the Yãmĩyxop ascended to heaven.

But when there is a forest,

The Yãmĩyxop will return to walk inside.

We didn't see the Yãmĩyxop running around here anymore.

Spirit of the honeyeater, the fat face and the thorn…

They're not running around here anymore

Among us

But the forest will grow

And the Yãmĩyxop will come down!

To stay inside the forest

and walk in his ways.

Because when I opened my eyes,

I saw the Yãmĩyxop walking around

When they lived on the land, but now they don't.

But they will come back and stay here on earth

and children will be afraid of them

And they won't do wrong things anymore.

Because Yãmĩyxop is our policeman, you know?
