BRIGADE COURSE
October 22 and 24, 2024
Between October 22nd and 24th, Tikmũ'ũn indigenous people from the Maxakali Indigenous Land (Santa Helena de Minas and Bertópolis, MG) participated in the 1st Volunteer Firefighter Training Course offered by IBAMA/PrevFogo in partnership with FUNAI.
This is a first step towards the long-awaited creation of an indigenous brigade to act in the prevention and fight against fires that year after year devastate Tikmũ'ũn territories, dominated by colonial grass and brachiaria, two natural fuels for fire.
At the end of the training, participants received equipment from Prevfogo for preventing and fighting wildfires, including hoes, fire extinguishers, water pumps, safety glasses, and helmets. That same week, the group also decided to create and name the first Tikmũ'ũn_Maxakali fire brigade: KÕNÃG HI - ÁGUA VIVA!
